Proper Exfoliation removes the barrier of dead skin cells clogging the skin and uncovers fresh new cells below. Exfoliating opens the way for correcting serums & moisturising products to penetrate deeper into the skin, which makes them more useful. In short, a regular exfoliating routine will leave your skin looking fresh and healthy.
There are two different processes to exfoliate away dead skin cells:
Chemical Exfoliation – involves chemical exfoliants such as acids or enzymes to dissolve and loosen dead skin cells.
Physical Exfoliation – involves products containing small particles; they work by scrubbing away the dead skin and debris.
Which one should I use?
This all depends on your skin concern and skin type.
Typically the following applies.
Dry Skin – Will benefit more from the Chemical type of Exfoliation as this will be less harsh than the physical exfoliators.
Oily/Thick- The Physical Exfoliation is perfect for this skin as it helps break up impurities and wash them away.
Sensitive – Enzyme Exfoliation is the way to go for the sensitive skin type as it is very gentle on the skin, looking after the barrier of the skin.
Regardless of the Exfoliation type you choose, remember to not overdo it! 2-3 times per week is enough.
It would be best if you exfoliated straight after cleansing, followed by serums, then hydration. AND if you’re using AHAs use these at night, and ALWAYS wear SPF in the daytime
